Welcome to the Progressive Religious Partnership
We are an interfaith coalition seeking to raise a prophetic voice on issues of racial, economic, sexual and gender justice, and also be an alternative voice on war and peace. We have gathered a Steering Committee of religious leaders from Muslim, Jewish, Christian (Roman Catholic and Protestant), and Buddhist traditions. We are leaders of local congregations, Washington based policy advocates, teachers in college and seminaries, and organizers. We are agreed on the cluster of issues named above and hold them in equal importance.1. The recruitment of this Steering Committee was the first major accomplishment of the PRP.2. The second was the hosting of a Town Meeting in Washington DC at the historic Metropolitan AME church in which these major issues were discussed by panels of our Steering Committee.3. The third accomplishment was the mounting of this web site which will, as the organizing develops, become a major source of information about organizing on the progressive side of the religious community. We will have resources available and will host interactive “meetings” to bring into virtual community progressive religious activists around the country.4. Now the fourth programmatic project is the development and circulation of a “Spiritual and Ethical Report Card.” This seeks to bring “the war on terrorism” into the searching light of God’s judgment. The Report Card confesses that “we are too frightened and partially demobilized by the magnitude of what our country has been going through. It urges that we…seek each other out, as citizens and as children of one God, in order to share strength and wisdom.”We seek continually to find those who share our perspectives, commitments and calling. And we seek support for these efforts toward the end of being able to employ organizers, lobbyists and voices of courage to build this movement. We envision grassroots local and regional affiliates. We need your ideas, your energy and your leadership. And we need your support. You may provide us your name and contact information and you may provide financial support elsewhere in this site. We also welcome your thoughts, proposals and critiques. If there are ways we can support your efforts let us know. We are not a grant funding organization but we have other kinds of resources available. Be in touch._________________________Interfaith Organizing Against the Iraq War Read and sign the Statement of Conscience prepared by the PRP.• View our growing list of signers.• Local Anti-war Action• Call to Resist War and Affirm Human Rights
